WSB Logo Orange 80x80The PGA Tour heads to Texas for this years CJ Cup Byron Nelson. For the fifth year in a row
the tournament will take place at TPC Craig Ranch and we look at this week’s golf from a
betting angle and pick 4 players to take on the bookies.

The Course

TPC Craig Ranch is located just north of downtown Dallas. A par 72, it spans 7,438 yards, which is just over the tour average. Designed as a parkland course, it features numerous trees and Rowlett Creek, which comes into play on 11 of the 18 holes. Accuracy and good ball striking are key to navigating this layout which while challenging for the average golfer tends not to trouble the professionals with winning scores over the last 4 years ranging from -23 to -26.

Market Leaders

A number of top players on the PGA Tour are sitting out this weekend, however, World Number 1, Scottie Scheffler will be excited to play in his home state and the bookies have him as the heavy favourite to win this weekend, trading at 3.75. Jordan Spieth is trading at 19.00 followed by Sungjae Im at 23.00. Scheffler has not quite been at his best in recent weeks and given his price I am looking to take him on.

Selections:

Ben Griffin at 41.00

Griffin is coming off the back of his first PGA Tour win last weekend at the Zurich Classic where he and Andrew Novak teamed up for victory. Griffin also finished 13th at last years CJ Cup so he ticks the course form box as well. He has already secured, three top five finishes this season and with this weaker field he looks a big runner.

Suggested bet: Each way at 41.00.

Jordan Spieth at 19.00

Spieth has slowly started to get on a good run of form on the PGA Tour finishing 18th or better in is last three starts. This included two top fifteen finishes. Spieth is returning to his home state where he finished runner-up at the 2022 CJ Cup and 9th the year before. He will look to use this weekend, and the positive energy of the home fans, to really get rolling and get his first win of the season.

Suggested bet: Each way at 19.00.

Ryo Hisatsune at 71.00

Hisatsune has been on a solid run of form recently with four top twenty finishes in his last five starts. This includes a fifth and fourth place finish only a few weeks ago. He also managed to finish 13th at last years CJ Cup. He is going into this year’s tournament with a much better form than last year and will be very keen to challenge for the lead and if there is any week he could do it, this may be his best chance.

Suggested bet: Each way at 71.00.

Kevin Tway at 401.00

As his price suggests Tway is a massive outsider this week. The 36 year old American has never quite fulfilled the promise he showed as an amateur and his recent form has been loaded with missed cuts. For some reason he seems to take to this course though and was 9th last year and 11th the year before. I am going to have a speculative each way nibble with my main play that he finishes in the top 20.

Suggested bet: Tway each way at 401.00 for pocket change and a top 20 finish at 10.00
