WSB Logo Orange 80x80The DP World Tour remains in South Africa for another weekend as the players head inland to take on the Joburg Open at the Houghton Golf Club. We look at this week’s golf from a betting angle and select 4 players to take on the bookies.

The Course

Houghton has hosted eight South African Opens over the years with the first dating back to 1951. The course is not a long one and plays to a par 70 but strategically placed bunkers throughout the course make it tougher than some might expect. Altitude comes into play as the course sits 5,000 feet above sea level and f the players can keep the ball out of the trees and bunkers, they should be able to go very low.

There has been a lot of rain in the area over the past fortnight and the course should be ripe for the taking.

Jordan Smith 21.00

Jayden Schaper 23.00

Johannes Veerman 23.00

John Parry 29.00

Shaun Norris 29.00

Francesco Laporta 29.00

36.00 and better the balance

SELECTIONS:

Shaun Norris at 29.00.

Norris continues to put in solid performances this year. He finished ninth at last week’s SA Open after a poor Saturday which saw him fall from the top of the leaderboard. Norris has three top ten finishes already this year as well as a sixteenth-place finish in just five starts. The Alfred Dunhill winner is playing the best golf of his career and will be hungry to make up from his slip-up last weekend as he heads to the Joburg Open.

Shaun Norris each way at 29.00.

Dan Bradbury at 36.00

Bradbury will be excited to return to Houghton Golf Club, a course where he often plays well. In 2023 he finished in third place at the Joburg Open after winning it the year before. Bradbury hasn’t been on his best form however, sometimes all it takes for golfers to find their momentum is a course that suits their game and Houghton is one that suits Bradbury’s.

Dan Bradbury each way at 36.00.

Jayden Trey Schaper at 23.00

Looking back at the results over the past few years of the SA Open as well as the Joburg Open, it comes as no surprise that the majority of the time the tournaments are won by South Africans. I think this week could be the week for Schaper. The young South African finished sixteenth at last week’s SA Open after finishing in the top five in his previous two starts on the DP World Tour. He currently sits 18th in the DP World Tour rankings showing what kind of form he is in and he has also shown a liking for the course with a top 10 and top 20 in his 2 starts.

Jayden Trey Schaper each way at 23.00.

Darren Fichardt at 101.00

The veteran is being ignored by the bookmakers and that could prove a mistake on their part. He finished 4th in the SA Open last week and was runner up here in 2023.

Darren Fichardt win at 101.00 and a bigger stake top 10 at 8.50
