Let’s start with a look at the updated Varsity Cups Outright Betting where the Eagles are currently trading as 16/10 favourites ahead of Maties at 18/10. You can get 4/1 Ikeys, 9/2 CUT and 12/1 and better the balance.

Wits v Tuks – Click here to bet

Wits are currently 6th on the log with 2 victories and 3 defeats in their 5 matches. Wits were away to Ikeys last time out and they went down 46-19 and their last home game was a 54-56 defeat to Maties where they came from nowhere to take the lead only to lose to a last minute penalty.

Tuks are currently sitting bottom of the table with 5 loses in 5 matches. They were away to Maties last time out and went down 46-35 in Stellenbosch. Their last home game was a 22-26 defeat to the Eagles.

Tuks have played in some high scoring fixtures this season and their 2 home games have had 68 and 110 points in them respectively.

Suggested Bet: Over 62.5 points at 17/20

Ikeys v NWU Eagles – Click here to bet

The UCT Ikeys are currently sitting 3rd on the log, 6 points behind the Eagles. They have won 3 and lost 2 of their 5 fixtures. The Ikeys hosted Wits last week winning 46-19 and they have also beaten Shimlas and Tuks at home this season

The Eagles are currently top of the table with 4 wins in their 5 fixtures and last week they were too strong for CUT at home winning 45-28. Their last away game was a 26-22 win over Tuks.

Games on the green mile tended to be lower scoring than other matches although last week’s game against Wits was something of an exception. Still I would have to say at the current point line at 64.5 I am happy to go unders.

Suggested Bet: Under 64.5 points at 17/20

UJ v Maties – Click here to bet

UJ are currently 7th on the log with just 1 win in their 5 games. They put up a brave fight away to Shimlas last time out going down 31-30, but their last home game was a 12-54 defeat to CUT.

Maties have recovered from a fairly slow start to win 4 out of their 5 matches and sit 2nd on the log. Maties beat Tuks 46-35 last week and the week before that won a high scoring encounter 56-54 away at Wits.

Maties haven't been that convincing this season and I get the feeling that this handicap is a little bit too high.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, UJ +13.5 at 9/10

Shimlas v CUT – Click here to bet

Shimlas are currently 5th on the log with 3 wins and 2 losses in their 5 matches. They edged UJ 31-30 at home last week and their other home game this season was also a 1 point victory over Wits.

CUT currently sit 3rd on the log with 3 victories and 2 defeats in their 5 matches. They were beaten 45-28 away at the Eagles last week and their last road trip saw them beat UJ 54-12.

I get the feeling that CUT are beginning to feel the effects of the season and I think that Shimlas can win this game and I am going to back them to do so rather than dabble in the handicap market.

Suggested Bet: Shimlas win at 16/10
