Outright Winner
Plenty of PGA Tour regulars make up the field in Mexico this week with precious ranking points and prize money on offer:-
World number 7 Justin Thomas hasn’t been at the very top of this game throughout 2020 but he is always in and around the winning positions in the events that matter and is justified favourite here.
Young Norwegian Viktor Hovland now looks fully at home on the PGA Tour, and he will be raring to go after a couple of weeks off following the Ryder Cup, here in Mexico.
Home favourite Abraham Ancer always plays well in Mexican conditions and with his general performance level improving hugely this year, he could well compete with the big boys come Sunday.
Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka has endured an injury plagued couple of seasons, but his playing level continues to improve every week and he sneak under the radar here in Mexico.
As one of the most talented players never to win a major, Rickie Fowler continues to underachieve in the eyes of many, but he has a game well suited to the quick conditions in Mexico this week.
1st Round Leader
Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-
American Tony Finau continues to churn out the performances on the PGA Tour and he should right in contention from the off here in Mexico.
Englishman Justin Rose has fallen off the pace on the PGA Tour over the past couple of seasons but playing conditions should suit his accurate game here in Mexico.
Former Mayakoba Classic winner Pat Perez has had a quiet season in 2021 but he could relish a return to one of his greatest victories this weekend.
Top Ten Finish
With so many quality players assembled here in Mexico, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:-
American Patrick Reed has overcome injury problems this season and after a second place finish last week, he could be in good form again here
Irishman Shane Lowry is often one of the most consistent players on both the PGA and European Tours and how he would love a good week here.
Swede Alex Noren hasn’t enjoyed his best season on the European Tour, and he will be hoping to find some form on the PGA Tour this season and the course in Mexico should be a good fit for him.
