The Scandinavian Mixed is one of the more interesting events on the European Tour, as it features players from the Ladies European Tour. This year’s event gets underway on Thursday, with the winning player crowned on Sunday. This year’s competition will be held at Halmstad Golf Club in Tylosand, Sweden, and the event is a par 72.
Event Details & Records
The Scandinavian Masters was rebranded back in 2020, as it became officially co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour. Nowadays, the tournament is known as the Scandinavian Mixed, and both male and female players are in direct opposition. Players compete over a total of 6,909 yards, and is a par 72 event. A total prize fund of $2 million is on the line this weekend.
The record score in the event was set by Eric van Rooyen, who finished with an aggregate total of 261 in 2019. However, the par records are held by Mark Hensby and Henrik Stenson, who both finished -22 in 2005. The event in 2021 was the first time that both male and female players competed at the same time, with Jonathan Caldwell claiming victory by one shot. Meanwhile, the highest placed female player was Alice Hewson, who finished back in third.
Leading Contenders
Alex Noren is one of a number of contenders looking to give Sweden a home success. The Swede picked up a first victory on the European Tour back in 2016, and has won on ten further occasions since then. He has played in just two events so far this year, most recently finishing in a tie for 89th at the PGA Championship in May. On his other start, he finished in a tie for 18th in the WGC- Dell Technologies Match Play in March. However, he is an extremely skinny 17/2 in the BetXchange markets for this event at the weekend, which could see bettors look elsewhere.
Maja Stark could be another interesting Swede to keep an eye on this weekend, as she finished third in the Scandinavian Mixed in 2021. She has achieved 13 top ten finishes and two wins during her career. Stark could be the best-performing female this weekend on a course that she knows extremely well. Jason Scrivener could be a player worth a shot in the BetXchange top-five finish betting market this weekend at 6/1.
He has made the cut on all starts this season, with his best finish being his tie for ninth in the Ras al Khaimah Classic back in February. Last time out, he finished in a tie for 25th in the Porsche European Tour in May. Another top-five play could be Joakim Lagergren. The two-time European Tour event winner looked to be back on course last time out, as he finished in a tie for 5th in the Porsche European Open.
Scandinavian Mixed Prediction
As well as the top five finish picks that we have mentioned above, our win play will be with Henrik Stenson. The Swede hosts the event this weekend, and previously finished second in the event after a playoff in 2005. We could see the European Ryder Cup captain going one better this weekend.
