Golf: PGA Tour Barracuda Championship
Venue: Tahoe Mountain Club, California
Dates: Thursday 30th July – Sunday 2nd August 2020
Tournament Preview
With two events running side-by-side on the PGA Tour, there is a real feeling of normality beginning to develop within world golf. The Barracuda Championship has long been an alternate event for those not taking part in the St Jude Invitational and the field assembled in California is impressive. The event first launched in 1999 and has an impressive winning alumni with the likes of Collin Morikawa, Geoff Ogilvy, and Gary Woodland just some of the big names that have won the trophy historically. In addition, there is over $3.5 million within the prize pot, making it a real opportunity for some of the players on the fringes of the PGA Tour to make a real name for themselves.
Betting Preview
Outright Winner
Most of the major players on the PGA Tour look to be finding their rhythm, which should set up an excellent week of golf here in California:
American Russell Henley is a consistent performer and his 7th placed finish at the Workday Charity Open earlier this month could be a real catalyst for him this week in California.
With two top-15 finishes from his last 3 outings on the PGA Tour, Brendan Steele is a man in excellent form, and he should relish the playing conditions here.
Former European Ryder Cup player Alex Noren hasn’t been in the best of form over the past couple of years, but he is a quality performer on his day.
Emerging American Kurt Kitayama is still establishing himself on the PGA Tour but he is a fantastic player and he could relish the absence of some bigger names in the field here.
Impressive young American Will Gordon has looked completely at home on the PGA Tour this year and his 3rd place at the Travellers last month could be a real sign of things to come.
1st Round Leader
With players still trying to find momentum within their respective seasons, getting off to a fast start could be hugely important here in California:
After finishing 12th at the 3M open last weekend, Ryan Moore will be full of confidence as he heads to an event he has played well in previously.
Consistency continues to scupper Lanto Griffin in the biggest events but with plenty of big names not featuring here in California, he could be one to watch.
Former major winner and German golfing legend Martin Kaymer continues to battle on the PGA Tour and he could be one to watch from the off here in California.
Top 10 Finish
With so many good players assembled here in California, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 10 come Sunday:
Argentinian Emiliano Grillo finished 3rd at the 3M Open with a stellar final round of 6 under and he could continue that form here in California this week.
Austrian Matthias Schwab is a newcomer on the PGA Tour and with some bigger names not in action, he looks good odds to find his feet quickly here.
Former top 10 player Nick Watney showed real form to finish tied for 12th at the 3M Open last week and he should be well in contention come Sunday afternoon here.
