Golf: Mallorca Open

Venue: Son Muntander Golf Club, Mallorca, Spain.
Dates: 20th – 23rd October 2022

Tournament Preview

The Mallorca Open is the next pit stop on the DP World Tour, with the event having first been played in the Autumnal sun in 2021. As a relatively new tournament on the DP World Tour, the prize money of 1 million euros is representative of the fledgling status the event currently has but there is a very strong field assembled on the Balearic island of Mallorca this week. Dane Jeff Winther shot a final round 62 in 2021 to win the event by one shot and he and plenty of other big names will be chasing victory once more at the Son Muntander Golf Club this weekend.

Betting Preview

Outright Winner

The European Tour continues provide drama week in, week out and this should be another excellent week at the Son Muntander Golf Club: –

Rasmus Hojgaard – 12/1

Young Dane Rasmus Hojgaard is continuing to develop into one of the leading lights on the DP World Tour and he heads up a field of predominantly fringe players here in Mallorca.

Ryan Fox – 16/1

New Zealander Ryan Fox prevailed at the Alfred Dunhill Championships in Scotland last time month and whilst conditions could not be more different here, he should have plenty of confidence here in Mallorca.

Eddie Pepperell – 20/1

Popular Englishman Eddie Pepperell has been revitalised in 2022 and whilst he hasn’t hit the winning enclosure this year, he should take confidence from going close on many occasions.

Andy Sullivan – 40/1

Englishman Andy Sullivan has produced some much better golf in 2022 and he will be confident he can mix it with the big boys in favourable playing conditions in Spain this week.

Joost Luiten – 50/1

Dutchman Joost Luiten has really struggled to patch any form together for the past 12 months or so, but he could be well suited to the conditions here in Spain.

1st Round Leader

Producing the goods over 72 holes is often the most difficult thing for any golfer to do therefore here are our first round leader picks:-

Adrian Otaegui – 30/1

Having romped home in his home event at the Andalucia Masters in Valderrama last week, Adrian Otaegui will arrive in Mallorca full of confidence, as he chases back-to-back wins.

Jamie Donaldson – 66/1

Welshman Jamie Donaldson always produces solid golf in every event he plays and with the conditions set fair in Mallorca, he could go well this week.

Top Five Finish

With so many quality players assembled here at Mallorca, getting into the winning enclosure could be tough but there are plenty of candidates to finish in the top 5 come Sunday:-

Richie Ramsay – 6/1

Scot Richie Ramsay has developed into one of the men to beat on the DP World Tour and his consistency throughout 2022 has been mightily impressive.

Connor Syme – 10/1

Fellow Scot Connor Syme has enjoyed a breakthrough year of sorts at DP World Tour level and how he would love to solidify that with another strong showing this weekend.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello – 12/1

Former European Ryder Cup player Rafa Cabrera-Bello has struggled for form over the past couple of seasons but a return to familiar surrounds could be just the tonic here in Mallorca.
