Last weekend got off to a poor start when I backed the Highlanders to score 31 points or more in a match against the Western Force in Perth on Friday.
The Highlanders certainly looked like sailing past the 30 point mark at one stage, but they never got going in the second half and I had that sinking feeling of losing my first bet of the weekend and knowing the bookies had the early lead.
The next morning my best bet of the weekend, the Waratahs to score 15 points or more looked in big trouble early as the Blues dominated them. The Waratahs are a good attacking side though and although they were beaten by 27 points, they managed to score 21 themselves and get me back on an even keel for the weekend.
Things really took off from there and I hit a nice win in the Chiefs v Brumbies game where I was over 28.5 Chiefs points and you know it is your weekend when a bet looks in real trouble like my Reds over 21.5 points did and it still arrives. The Crusaders were giving them an absolute thumping but the beauty of going overs on a team’s points is if they are taking a beating there is always the chance of consolation tries and 3 late tries for the Reds saw this one home.
I was now on a great run and couldn’t wait for the Rainbow Cup. The points line in Durban was low as there had been some bad weather about, but I followed the boys on the Goodforthegame Forum and went over 42.5 points. I wouldn’t say this bet cruised in, but after a slow start we did reach 47 and another winner was banked.
Things only got better as I went 57 points or more in the Lions v Bulls game at Ellis Park and this was a 67 point thriller, eventually won by the Lions who I had also backed to score 25 points or more.
Could the weekend get any better? Yes, it could as Toulouse benefitted from a red card to win the Champions Cup and so delivered the 14/1 accumulator I put up in Friday’s Betting Newsletter.
On Sunday I was able to reflect on the incredible weekend and of course plan my next assault against the bookmakers, starting Friday.
