With the Rugby World Cup something of the past I am looking to take something of a betting sabbatical over the next two months. Of course, strictly speaking it is not a sabbatical at all as I won’t be getting paid and frankly I won’t stop betting all together. The frequency and size of my bets will decrease though.
This past weekend was a case in point and while there was some Pro 14 Rugby I never got heavily involved, placing just two bets, winning one and losing the other to show a small profit.
My weekend was made on Sunday night though where I followed regular Goodforthegame Forum contributor, Southpaw with his trademark bet of Liverpool to score 2 goals or more at just over 1/1 against Manchester City. The bet arrived within the first quarter of the match as Liverpool raced to a 2-0 lead. There was some controversy around their first goal and the fact that Manchester City should perhaps have been awarded a penalty in the buildup but as a punter I have had many of these calls go against me in the past and I was more than happy to collect the bet and close up shop after a profitable post Rugby World Cup weekend.
As you read this the Nedbank Golf Challenge will be on the go and this has always been one of my favourite betting events although I must confess I long for the old days of the limited 12 man field and the early December tee off. Still it would be a shame not to get involved and I backed Henrik Stenson to win at 15/1. He is a proven winner over the Gary Player layout and the field that has been assembled at Sun City this year is lukewarm at best.
I will also have another distraction this weekend as GGGaming are sponsoring me into the WPT Poker Series starting on Friday night. More information is available on the Shuffle Up Poker Website, but essentially if I should by some chance cash (those in my poker school will think it unlikely) then I will pocket a third of the money, a third will go to charity and a third will go to those who watch the GGGaminggonemad Live YouTube Show at 20:15 on Thursday night.
I am missing the World Cup, but have found a way to fill the void.
