WSB Logo Orange 80x80Varsity Cup continues on Monday and we take look at the 4 matches from a betting angle.

Maties come-from-behind win over Wits last week has seen them return to the top of the betting boards at 18/10 joint favourites with the Eagles, you can get 9/2 CUT, 13/2 Ikeys, 15/2 Wits and 15/1 and better the balance.

UCT Ikeys v Wits – Click here to bet

Ikeys are currently 5th on the table with 2 victories and 2 losses in their opening 4 games. Last week they were at home to Shimlas, winning 29-12 and their other home game was a comfortable 23 point win over Tuks.

Wit are 4th on the log and also have a 50% win/loss record. They were at home to Maties last week and staged an incredible comeback to take the lead only to go down to a Maties penalty and lose 56-54. On the road this season Wits have beaten CUT by 10 and lost to Shimlas by a point.

Last season Ikeys beat Wits 47-23 in Johannesburg.

Wits have played in some very high scoring games, but the Cape Town fixtures have tended to have had less points in them and I am going for under 64.5 as my play.

Suggested Bet: Under 64.5 points at 17/20

NWU Eagles v CUT – Click here to bet

The Eagles currently top the table with 3 wins and 1 loss in their opening 4 games. They got a hard fought 26-22 win over Tuks last week and their home matches have seen them lose to the Maties by 3 and hammer the Shimlas by 47 with a 13 point win over UJ to start their campaign.

CUT are 2nd on the table also with 3 victories and 1 defeat. That defeat came first up at home to Wits when they went down 49-59 and on the road this season they have beaten Maties by 4 in a low scoring encounter and hammered UJ 54-12 last week.

Last season CUT hosted the Eagles and went down 14-33

Bookies continue to under-estimate this CUT team and I am going to back them to beat the handicap here.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, CUT +8.5 at 9/10

UFS Shimlas v UJ – Click here to bet

Shimlas got their campaign off to a promising start with an away win over Tuks, but since then have only won 1 of 3 matches and they currently sit 6th on the log. They went down by 17 points away at Ikeys last week and in their only home match this season they edged Wits 26-25.

UJ have only won 1 of their opening 4 matches and they currently sit 7th on the table, 3 points ahead of Tuks who prop up the log. UJ hosted CUT last week and went down by 42 points and their two away matches were a 2 point loss to Wits and a 13 point loss to the Eagles.

UJ hosted Shimlas last season and Shimlas ran out 37-26 winners.

Shimlas have been inconsistent, but they should have too much for this UJ team and I am backing them to beat the handicap.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Shimlas -7.5 at 9/10

Maties v Tuks – Click here to bet

This is traditionally the match between the number 1 and 2 teams in the competition, but Tuks are really struggling this year and are bottom of the table with 4 losses from 4 games.

Maties have won 3 and lost 1 and sit 3rd on the log, but they haven't been as strong this season as we have seen them in the past. They got a last minute penalty to beat Wits 56-54 on the road last week and their two home games this season were a 23-19 loss to CUT and a 21-19 victory over Ikeys.

Tuks went down 22-26 to the Eagles at home last week and on the road they lost by 2 points to CUT and by 23 points to the Ikeys.

Last season Maties played Tuks in Pretoria and won 19-9.

Maties two home games have been low scoring this season and I am betting on that trend to continue.

Suggested Bet: Under 60.5 points at 17/20
