Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs meet for the first time since March 2022 and we take a look at the big Soweto Derby from a betting angle.
Orlando Pirates are officially the home team here, but really it makes no difference in this fixture between the age old rivals from Soweto.
Pirates are currently trading at 14/1 to win the PSL Title with Kaizer Chiefs at 20/1.

PIRATES
Pirates are currently 4th on the log with 5 wins and 4 draws in their opening 12 matches. They are undefeated in their last 3, beating Arrows 2-0 on the road last time out and prior to that they drew with AmaZulu and Richards Bay at home.
Pirates were in Cup action last weekend at Mamelodi Sundowns and they booked their spot in the MTN 8 Cup Final with a 3-0 victory over the League Champions. It was a result which could have been backed at just over 3/1.
Orlando Pirates games have been amongst the lowest scoring in the PSL this season and their 12 matches average only 1.3 goals each. Had you been backing over 2.5 goals you would have lost your money in all 12 of their games.
CHIEFS
Kaizer Chiefs are in 5th, one position below Pirates and one point behind them. After a slow start to the season they were steadily climbing the table and had a 5 game unbeaten stretch which included 3 successive victories. That came to an end with a 2-1 home defeat by Chippa United and last time out they drew 2-2 with TS Galaxy and from a defensive point of view it was a disappointing performance as Galaxy hadn’t scored in 7 matches.
While Pirates games have been incredibly low scoring, Kaizer Chiefs matches averaged 2.5 goals each and 7 of their 12 games have reached the 3 goal mark, more than any other PSL side. Another interesting stat from Chiefs games is that in their last 6 games both teams have found the back of the net on each occasion
HEAD-TO-HEAD
For the head-to-head form I am going to narrow it down to League matches and ignore any Cup meetings along the way.
Last season Kaizer Chiefs did the double over Pirates winning both matches 2-1 and they have won the last 3 Derbies between the sides in the League. It is somewhat surprising to me that 3 of the last 4 and 4 of the last 6 matches in the PSL have delivered profits for over 2.5 goal backers and you have to go back 7 matches to find the last time these sides played to a draw in the League.

Orlando Pirates 15/10
Draw 2/1
Kaizer Chiefs 39/20
Suggested Bet: Orlando Pirates win at 15/10
Pirates have got a strong defence and the attack seems to be coming to hand nicely as witnessed in the game against Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs defence is very shaky this season and I think that is going to open the door for Orlando Pirates to claim an invaluable 3 points.
