WSB Logo Orange 80x80We take a look at the 4 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals taking place this weekend and suggest a bet in each of them.

Before we get into the previews let’s have a look at the Outright Betting where Mamelodi Sundowns are trading at 13/10 favourites ahead of Orlando Pirates at 7/2, you can get 15/4 Chiefs and 16/1 and better the balance.

SATURDAY

Dondol Stars v Orlando Pirates – Click here to bet

The Dondol Stars play in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League and they are in good form. They have certainly not had it easy on route to the last 8 and have pulled off two big upsets beating SuperSport United 2-1 away at a price of 16/1 and then taking AmaZulu down on penalties at home, a game where they started 6/1 underdogs.

Orlando Pirates are currently 2nd in the PSL with 4 successive victories and they booked their spot in the last 8 with a 2-0 away win over Cape Town All Stars and then a 2-1 extra time win over Venda.

Dondol Stars are priced at 11/1 for another upset win, but surely Pirates will be too strong here and I am going to back the visitors to win by more than a goal.

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Pirates -1.5 Goals not priced at the time of writing but hopefully around the 9/10 mark – keep an eye on the betting

Stellenbosch v Mamelodi Sundowns – Click here to bet

Stellenbosch currently sit 11th on the PSL table and they have lost their last two games in the League. They reached the last 8 courtesy of a 3-0 home win over Swallows and a 6-3 away win over TS Galaxy.

Mamelodi Sundowns have wrapped up the Premiership Title, but their form has dipped a bit and they have drawn 4 of their last 5 matches in the League. They saw off Richards Bay 3-2 at home in the Round of 32 and in the last 16 beat Marumo Gallants 3-1 on the road.

These sides played to a 1-1 draw at Stellenbosch in the League earlier in the season and while I would be happy to take on Sundowns in the League knowing their attention has not been on it, I think they will be back to their best in this Cup competition and can’t see past an away win here. The current price of 4/7 looks fair enough, but I am going to wait for the goals markets to be priced up before placing my bet.

Suggested Bet: I like over 2.5 goals here, keep an eye on the betting for a price but I am expecting around 5/4

SUNDAY

Chippa United v Sekhukhune United – Click here to bet

Chippa United are currently second from bottom in the PSL and they lost in midweek, 3-1 away to Marumo Gallants despite taking the lead. They beat Polokwane on penalties in the round of 32 and then saw off Mpheni 2-0 at home in the last 16 to book their spot in the quarter-finals.

Sekhukhune are 7th on the PSL table and undefeated in their last 3 starts. they beat Liver Brothers 6-0 at home in the round of 32 and then saw off Cape Town Spurs 2-0 also at home to make the last 8.

All 4 meetings between these sides in the last two seasons have been low scoring, but for me the value lies in Sekhukhune, who are in good form and won’t be distracted by the relegation battle that Chippa United are involved in.

Suggested Bet: Sekhukhune United win at 17/10

Royal AM v Kaizer Chiefs – Click here to bet

This for me is the clash of the quarter-finals which pits 8th placed Royal AM against 4th placed Kaizer Chefs in a Cup encounter.

Royal AM required penalties to get past Cape Town City in the Round of 32 before coming out and beating Golden Arrows away in extra time.

Kaizer Chiefs played Maritzburg in their Round of 32 clash requiring extra time to win on the road and they were then too strong for Casric Stars winning 2-1 at home.

These sides have played twice in the League this season with the home team winning on each occasion. Chiefs winning the most recent encounter 2-0 and earlier in the season it was Royal AM who prevailed 1-0 at home and Royal AM have won 3 of their last 4 fixtures against Kaizer Chiefs.

This should be an exciting fixture, but I am backing Chiefs to comfortably pull them through.

Suggested Bet: Kaizer Chiefs win at 12/10
