BettingDiaryThe Japanese Grand Prix takes place at the Suzuka Race Track this weekend and it will be the first time it has been run since 2019.

Sergio Perez won an exciting Singapore Grand Prix last week beating home Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jnr. It was a poor race for Championship leader Max Verstappen who finished 7th with Lewis Hamilton coming in 9th.

While Verstappen still leads Leclerc by 104 points in the Drivers Standings the betting without Max Verstappen has certainly become a lot more interesting as Leclerc now only leads Perez by 2 points with Russell a further 33 points back in 4th, a point ahead of Carlos Sainz Jnr. Leclerc remains a strong favourite in this market at 4/10 with Perez now into 9/4 and you can get 25/1 Russell and Sainz and 50/1 Lewis Hamilton.

The Japanese Grand Prix was last held in 2019 when Valtteri Bottas won in his Mercedes. Prior to that Lewis Hamilton had won in 4 out of 5 years and overall Hamilton has 5 wins with the first coming in 2007.

Max Verstappen 8/13

Charles Leclerc 7/2

Sergio Perez 12/1

Lewis Hamilton 12/1

Carlos Sainz Jnr. 16/1

George Russell 20/1

225/1 and better the balance

Suggested Bet: Charles Leclerc to win at 7/2

Verstappen is a worthy favourite here at 8/13 at the time of writing, but Leclerc has shown some improved form and there are some question marks around Verstappen at the moment and I am wondering if perhaps with the title race basically wrapped up the edge hasn’t gone off his driving.

Suggested Bet: Fastest Qualifier, Charles Leclerc at 5/4

Verstappen and Leclerc are both priced at 5/4 in this market, but Leclerc is showing plenty of speed as he demonstrated when qualifying on pole position in the Singapore Grand Prix. I think he may have an edge over Verstappen around the Suzuka Track.

Suggested Bet: Points finish, Pierre Gasly at 14/10

He delivered for us in this market last time all be it only just finishing 10th in Singapore. That was his third points finish in 4 starts though and he hasn’t finished outside the Top 12 in his last 6 and that suggests to me that there is some value in this price
