PREVIOUS RACE (Las Vegas GP 2024)

Mercedes had the perfect race last weekend with George Russell finishing 1st and Lewis Hamilton finishing 2nd, grabbing maximum points. Ferrari had a solid weekend in terms of their Constructors Championship as they finished 3rd and 4th to edge closer towards McLaren. Max Verstappen managed to beat Lando Norris and therefore win the Drivers’ Championship while McLaren finished in 6th and 7th, a disappointing result for them.

CONSTRUCTORS CHAMPIONSHIP

McLaren are sitting on 608 points while Ferrari edged closer, now sitting on 584 points, only a 24-point difference between the two teams. Red Bull still have a chance of winning and they sit on 555 points, although it may be too much of a long shot as they will need both drivers to have perfect weekends over the next two races.

McLaren is trading at 1.22 to win the Constructors Championship while Ferrari are trading at 4.30 and Red Bull at 101.00.

VERDICT

Mercedes had a brilliant race last weekend and will be going to Qatar with plenty of momentum. They have proven before that they have a fast car in Qatar with Lewis Hamilton winning the race in 2021 and if George Russell can have a solid qualifying, he looks a lively podium prospect.

George Russell podium finish at 2.40.

McLaren knows that every single point counts in this race for the Constructors Championship, even the one point gained for having the fastest lap of the race. Last weekend they pitted Lando Norris towards the end of the race and put him on soft tyres just to get the extra fastest lap point. If given the opportunity this weekend they will surely do this again with either of their drivers to gain an advantage over Ferrari.

McLaren fastest lap in race at 2.60
