BettingDiaryEngland and South Africa meet in the first of three ODI’s with the match taking place at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday and we take a look at the match from a betting angle.

England have a very short turnaround after returning back from India where they lost the ODI Series 2-1. Prior to that they had beaten the Netherlands 3-0 on the road and last time they played in England they saw off Sri Lanka and Pakistan without losing a match. This will be England’s Ben Stokes last ODI match as he focuses on other forms of the game.

South Africa’s most recent action was a home series against Bangladesh in March where they lost 2-1, but prior to that they saw off India 3-0 also in South Africa. Their last away series was back in September last year when they went down 2-1 to Sri Lanka and they warmed up against the English Lions, winning 1 and losing 1. Temba Bavuma is out injured and Maharaj will captain the side.

These sides last met in an ODI Series back in South Africa in early 2020 and the Series result was 1-1.

The Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street is not one of the more popular ODI venues for England and they have only played 5 matches at this venue, winning 4 and losing 1.

England 11/20

South Africa 15/10

Selections:

Quinton de Kock, Top Away Batsman at 26/10

I have a feeling that de Kock is going to go well in England and I am backing him to get off to a cracking start in the 1st ODI.

Top Away Bowler, Shamsi at 3/1

Shamsi is a top class player who can adapt to virtually any conditions. I am expecting the English to go after him at some point and he is my pick to bag the most wickets out of the South African team.
