WSB Logo Orange 80x80The Varsity Cup Final takes place in Potchefstroom on Monday and we take a look at the game from a betting angle.

The Eagles are trading as 5/10 favourites to lift the cup with UCT on offer at 15/10.

The Eagles overcame the Maties at home last week in a low scoring semi-final winning 19-10. They started slowly, but later got control of the game, but failed to really make it count on the scoreboard and the result was in the balance right until the end. They had finished 1st on the log winning 6 and losing 1 of their 7 matches and picking up 7 bonus points along the way.

The Ikeys went in to their game against Shimlas as 4 point underdogs, but they turned in their most impressive display of the season and absolutely hammered the home team 65-30. They burst into an early lead and never allowed their opponents into the game. The Ikeys had finished 3rd on the log with 4 wins and 3 defeats in their 7 matches.

In the League stages the Ikeys hosted the Eagles and lost 26-42. Neither of these sides made last year’s final and of the two teams, Ikeys did the best in 2022 losing their semi-final at home to Maties.

NWU 11/20

Draw 33/1

UCT 16/10

Handicap: NWU -6.5

Of the two sides it was certainly UCT that impressed last week, but I feel they are going to struggle to replicate that effort and with the Eagles having beaten them on the road earlier in the season I am predicting a win for the favourites and celebrations to go deep into the night in Potchefstroom.

The Total Points Line has been set at 58.5 and the Eagles Line is 30.5 while the Ikeys Line is 23.5. The bet I fancy here is the Eagles to score over 30 points.

Suggested Bet: Home Team Points Over 30.5 at 17/20
