The latest Goodforthegame newsletter penned by @BrentGraham with best bets for the weekend 30th to 31st August
Fine Margins
It goes without saying that sports betting success often hinges on fine margins, and last week was no exception. In my preview of Boks vs Australia, I went with under 53.5 points, and by the time the newsletter went out, the line had shifted to 51.5, but I went back to the trough.
Both bets looked dead and buried after a wild start, but the match finished on 52 points. That meant the original preview landed, while the newsletter play fell short by half a point.
I find myself in a similar spot today with USA vs Australia at the Women’s Rugby World Cup. I tipped USA +14.5 in the WRWC blog—it’s now down to +11.5. I still like the USA, but won't be getting further involved in that market.
๐ Rugby Action & Key Links
We’ve got a fantastic weekend of rugby ahead. Here are some key links to stay plugged in:
-
Click for the WRWC Blog – Last week was a belter!
-
Click for the Currie Cup Blog – Griquas got us off to a flyer, but today’s matchups look tricky.
-
Stay close to the Rugby Forum Thread and the WRWC Forum Thread for bets from other punters.
๐ THE HANDICAP – Look Out for Tangents!
I planned to keep Thursday night’s show to an hour as had tax deadlines looming-but Oracle had other ideas…
It turned into a cracker with The Mossman also on board, and a few entertaining tangents thrown in for good measure. Great viewing for both seasoned and casual punters.
Here are a few shortcuts from the show:
-
Jump to Lions v Bulls
-
Jump to Canada v Wales
-
Jump to Italy v South Africa – What a game this will be! Arguably the biggest in our ladies’ history, and I reckon we can do it.
-
Jump to Sunday’s NPC Action

๐ฅ Weekend Plays
We don’t have Currie Cup points lines on offer (at least not at time of writing), so the focus is on the WRWC for now.
๐ The Unders Double – 26/10
The two biggest clashes this weekend namely USA v Australia and Italy v South Africa, are effectively knockouts. Mathematically that’s not 100% true, but in reality, the winner advances, the loser goes home after their next match.
With the pressure on, plus cooling UK weather, I’m expecting gritty, defensive showdowns.
-
Under 49.5 USA v Australia @ 9/10
-
Under 47.5 Italy v South Africa @ 9/10
BET: 2 units @ 26/10 at Hollywoodbets
๐งจ The Upset Acca – 29/1*
Oracle might not like this one… but I’ve got a feeling about an upset brewing in Maritzburg. (Yes, imagine calling a Sharks home win over Boland an upset…)
-
USA to win @ 4/1
-
Sharks to win @ 35/20
-
South Africa to beat Italy @ 12/10
BET: 0.5 units at 29/1 – WSB bet code: 40181825
*Money coming for Sharks so this may shorten
My 2 strongest fancies given available markets are
-
USA +11.5
-
Under 47.5 in Italy v South Africa
