EMPRESS WU showed good speed over this distance last time, but found one too good in the form of Panthera Uncia. If repeating that effort in this line-up, she may be the one to beat.

BILINGUAL finished 2.35 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

ACT ON SNOW ran a fair race when second with the blinkers over this distance last time. The daughter of Act Of War is back against her own sex and she should have a say.

Race 2

CHRONICLE KING produced a promising debut effort over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that Whispering Death has come out and won again since. The son of Vercingetorix will love the rise to 1600m and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the one to beat.

FIRE STARTER took time to find his feet on debut, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Fire Away would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.

GOLDEN WARRIOR has run three fair races to date. He finished 3.4 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 3

MATCHA MINT cost herself winning last time as she jumped awkwardly when leaving the gates. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She will love the rise to 1600m and if jumping on terms, she should be the one to beat.

WITCHING HOUR ran a fair race on debut over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. The daughter of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to 1600m. Gavin Lerena rides and she should make the natural progression.

OPERA FAN was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1000m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Horizon will love the rise to 1600m and she cannot be ignored.

Race 4

EIGHT HATS made the expected natural improvement when second over this distance last time. She was running on too late that day. The daughter of Hat Puntano is a progressive type and she may be the one to side with. She is carded to race on 11 May 2025 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

SUMMER WINTER finished 0.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

SUNSET WARRIOR has run two fair races to date. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. Malesela Katjedi retains the ride and he can run into the placings.

Race 5

MOLOTOV COCKTAIL produced an encouraging debut effort over 1400m. He took time to find his feet, but stayed on nicely at the finish. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The son of Danon Platina would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1600m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

PHIL THE FLUTER ran a decent race in his first start for the Robyn Klaasen stable. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. He will strip a much fitter horse and is one of the leading contenders.

CHIEFTAIN’S SHIELD was demoted to second in his last start over this distance. The son of Vercingetorix is in a good space and if keeping on a straight line, he can go close.

 

 

Race 6

GAMER has fair consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when sixth over 1800m at Turffontein last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Potala Palace takes a drop in class and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

SNEAK PREVIEW is better than her last two starts. She drops back in class and from pole position, she can find a form return.

BOB LEE SWAGGER won a good race over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The son of Futura meets a similar line-up this afternoon and he merits healthy respect.

Race 7

WAGRAM followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course. She was slow into stride but stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to 2000m and in this type of field, she may be the one to beat.

IDEAL FUTURE ran a good race when second over 2850m at Turffontein last time. She has won three times and finished second once from seven starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

AZALEAS FOR ALL is better than her last start as she raced wide around the turn. She has won once, finished second once and third once from seven starts on this course. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena retains the ride.

Race 8

AVOONTOAST was an easy winner of her last start over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course. She received a seven-pound penalty for that victory. Piere Strydom retains the ride and from her good draw of three, she can follow up with another victory.

DIMAKO’S JET kept finding when winning her last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

PLAY WITH FIRE rallied late when winning her last start over 1800m at Turffontein. She does have a wide draw to overcome, but S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 9

SAIL THE SKY won a good race over 1400m at Turffontein last time. He raced from a handy position and kept finding all the way to the line. He is in a good space and can notch up his fifth-career victory. He is carded to race on 08 May 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

KOTINOS ran a fair race over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He takes a slight drop in class and cannot be ignored with Piere Strydom booked to ride.

AFTER HOURS is better than his last start as the jockey reported something to be amiss in running. On his best form shown, he should be involved at the finish. He is carded to race on 08 May 2025 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 10

ARILENA won her last start over this distance at a nice price. She showed good speed and fought back well to hold all challengers at bay. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Piere Strydom is booked to ride and she may be hard to peg back.

LONELY AS A CLOUD finished 3.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

GAELIC DANCER showed good signs of a form return over 1200m last time. Her only career victory came over this distance. Craig Zackey is booked to ride and if confirming her recent improvement, she should have a say
