BettingDiaryFootball punters have plenty to look forward to on New Year’s Day and we have a closer look at the English Premier League matches taking place as well as other betting opportunities in our Daily Diary

FOOTBALL

There are no fewer than 9 English Premier League Matches to get 2020 underway and the good news is that they are broken up over 4 time slots so you can watch football from 14:30 through till about midnight without interruption.

In the early going Chelsea will be looking to build on their come from behind win at Arsenal, where they are priced at even money away at Brighton who are 11/4 for the win

Our pick of the three 17:00 kick-offs is Watford at home with the Hornets priced at 23/10, the draw 12/5 and the Wolves at 5/4.

Wolves have been involved in some high profile matches, beating Manchester City and looking a touch unlucky to lose to Liverpool away, but they run into a Watford side who are in fine form and with a victory against Manchester United to their credit in recent weeks. Wolves may just be a bit flat after their last 2 performances and we think Watford could be the value here at 23/10 to continue their battle for EPL survival.

Manchester City will be looking to keep their fading title challenge alive when they host Everton in a 19:30 kick-off and they are 3/10 for the victory with the draw 21/4 and Everton 9/1.

Everton have recently come under new management and they certainly look capable of frustrating Manchester City and the draw does look a bit of value at just over 5/1.

The late kick-off is an absolute cracker and sees Arsenal taking on Manchester United. The Gunners are 7/4 for the win, the draw is 53/20 and United are 29/20 in a game where bookmakers are struggling to separate the sides.

United are coming off two successive victories although their win at Burnley last time out wasn’t that impressive and their away form has looked a bit suspect this season.

Arsenal though look to be a team really struggling and we think United could be the bet here as they tend to lift themselves for these big games.

There is also Championship Football including a televised match between West Brom and Leeds United. These sides sit 1st and 2nd on the table with Leeds ahead only on goal difference at this point. Leeds are favourite for the win though at 13/10 with the draw 49/20 and West Brom 2/1 and we think the draw is a big runner at just shy of 5/2.

The Big Bash League continues on New Year’s Day with the Brisbane Heat up against the Perth Scorchers. The Heat are currently 8/11 for the win with the Scorchers priced at 23/20. Both of these sides are currently towards the bottom of the table with the Heat in 6th position with 1 win from their 3 starts, but they sit just above the Scorchers who have only won once in their 4 starts. There are plenty of other markets on offer and you can Click Here to bet on the Brisbane Heat v Perth Scorchers

Just a heads up at this point for the two Test Matches taking place later in the week, South Africa against England and Australia v New Zealand and you can find betting on those games in the quick link section at the top left hand side of our home page.

HORSE RACING

There is no rest for jockeys on New Year’s Day, an 8 race card at Scottsville starts at 12:45 and finishes at 16:50.

The Pick Six legs look to be fairly open races, but we do like the look of Horse No. 1 in Race 7, G G S Dynasty currently priced as 17/10 favourite under Anton Marcus.
