GRIFFONS v WESTERN PROVINCE

I handicapped this game Western Province -36.5 so was very surprised when the line opened -22.5. There has been some shift towards WP, but I still think there is plenty of upside on Western Province and this was rubber stamped on Thursday night’s show by The Understaker – click here to listen to his views on the game.

The points line is 66.5 and I expect the points to flow but the value for me lies in the handicap.

BET: 4 units Western Province -25.5 at 9/10 at WSB

AUSTRALIA v GEORGIA

Australia are coming off back-to-back wins over Wales where they won the game, but failed to beat the handicap. There was a lot to like about their play under Joe Schmidt and I think they are going to be too strong for a Georgian side that has lost some of its lustre in recent years.

The handicap has moved from -17.5 to -18.5 since we went live with THE HANDICAP but I am going to wait for points lines before making a final call.

Update 20 July 00h32

The points line is 53.5 and I like Australia points at over 35.5 – I think they will wear this Georgia D down.

BET: 3 units Australia -35.5* at 10/11 at WSB

*This should of read over 35.5 points apologies for the typo

NEW ZEALAND v FIJI

Post 19 July 11h48

This game is being played in San Diego which probably explains the quote in the mid 20’s rather the early 30’s. New Zealand have picked a strong looking side and I agree with the money coming for the All Blacks that has taken the cap from -23.5 to -26.5. From a points perspective this is an afternoon kick-off in what promises to be good conditions and we know that Fiji enjoys throwing the ball about. I am torn between the minus and the points, but will side for the latter.

Update 19 July 22h22

The points line is 64.5 and the best New Zealand points line I can find is 44.5 at 5/6 and that is good enough for me.

BET: 4 units New Zealand over 44.5 points at 5/6 at WSB

SHARKS v PUMAS

Posted 19 July 11h41

This game has had me confused all week, mainly because I originally thought it was in Nelspruit, but it turns out to be in Durban. I had the Sharks narrow favourites in Nelspruit, they are currently +5.5 at home so I am leaning towards them although it is of concern that The Understaker and virtually everyone on the live chat on last night’s THE HANDICAP fancied the Pumas.

It is quite tough to make a case for either team based on form lines with the Pumas beating Griquas away and the Sharks losing to them in Kimberley. However, the Sharks only just lost to the Lions at home while the Pumas were given a hiding by the Lions last week. I am going to stick with my gut on this one and go for the Sharks to beat the handicap.

BET: 4 units Sharks +5.5 at 19/20 at WSB

BULLS v CHEETAHS

Posted 19 July 11h30

I made Bulls favourites for this game so I was quite surprised when the Cheetahs were priced up at -3.5. They have been convincing in their first 2 games and there was plenty to like about the Cheetahs 20 point win over Western Province in Bloemfontein last week. The Bulls though travelled to Cape Town and also got a win over Western Province by 5 points and they have plenty of squad depth. With this game being played at Loftus I am leaning towards a Bulls win and with the handicap having come in to +1.5 I will back them on the board.

BET: 2 units Bulls win at 23/20 at WSB

LIONS v GRIQUAS

Posted 19 July 10h34 Update 11h56

I handicapped this game Lions -25.5 so was surprised when the line opened -9.5. It has moved to -14.5 and I am still in the Lions camp but am really waiting for the points lines to get involved.

The points line is 62.5 and I think this is an overs game but will focus on the home team.

BET: 4 units Lions over 37.5 points at 9/10 at WSB
